CareWorks Rolls Out Customized Case Management System

July 24, 2001

(DUBLIN, OH) - CareWorks is pleased to announce the completion of its new customized, three-module Case Management System. Developed in conjunction with Antares Management Solutions, this new system will allow CareWorks to improve its case management services and operate more efficiently than ever before.

The application, called Connexion cm by Antares, was specifically designed for CareWorks, a certified managed care organization (MCO) operating with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Health Partnership Program and covering more than 52,000 employers in Ohio.

The new system was designed to enable CareWorks to deliver data and exchange information more timely and resolve claims faster. The case management solution has a graphic user interface (GUI) improving easy-to-use and requires minimal training. CareWorks can now perform multiple job functions with one application, including a direct-send feature, which will allow CareWorks to efficiently transmit injured worker data to the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC).

William Pfeiffer, president and CEO of CareWorks, said the company is pleased with the product’s efficiency. "In an industry with a poor reputation for paperwork, we have taken major strides towards streamlining the flow of information and taking service to new levels," Pfeiffer explained. "The application allows us to have multiple users and saves time by eliminating duplication of work. We believe Connexion cm by Antares will allow us to expand upon the efficient and rapid customer service we already have."

The application was designed with three interacting modules: Employer, Case Management and Injured Worker.

The Employer Module allows CareWorks’ employees to track clients by accessing shared information related to the companies and their injured workers, which could help establish patterns of injuries. In addition to offering the convenience of looking up information from remote sites, it offers searches for information about employers and third-party administrator data.

The Care Management module features the entire claims history. This module is based on a diary function and allows case management nurses to make notes and communicate electronically about specific injuries and cases. The function also stores case information about an injured worker in perpetuity and allows nurses to access that information.

The Injured Worker module is initiated and updated via data entry or Electronic Data Interchange submission from the workers’ compensation bureau. The module allows the managed care organization’s employees to provide complete and accurate data on the injured worker. This module offers many automated features and an internal messaging system. A direct-send feature allows for daily transmissions of data to the Ohio BWC.

"Connexion cm by Antares is one of the most comprehensive yet easy-to-use products on the market for workers’ compensation managed care," Ed Hartzell, chief executive officer of Antares. "This application will allow CareWorks case managers to exchange information about managed care organizations’ customers and injured workers, making their jobs easier and faster."
